Family Connections

“The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.”

In the past, the word “family” has often been defined as a social unit usually consisting of parents and children. But in the modern world, we have come to recognize that ancestry is too confining to fully represent the complexities of our intimate relationships. Finding love and acceptance in the connections we make beyond those that bond us by blood are often just as precious and substantial. As we face the holidays and the year’s end, many of us will be spending time gathering with the ones we love, whether those be blood relatives, chosen families, or a blend of both. This is a list of artworks inspired by the ways we find and stay connected to our families.
